Electronic Arts has put the long-running Need for Speed game series
on hold, marking a pause after 30 years and over 150 million copies sold worldwide.
This was confirmed indirectly through the suspension of Speedhunters,
a car culture website supported by EA.

Matthew Everingham, a photographer who contributes regularly to Speedhunters,
revealed on Instagram that the site is currently 'paused' because EA stopped funding
the NFS franchise. Speedhunters has not published any new content since April,
and its social media accounts have been inactive since then.

Meanwhile, EA's Criterion Games studio, known for its work on NFS titles,
is now fully committed to developing Battlefield 6, signaling a clear shift
in EA's development priorities away from the racing series.

This sudden halt raises questions about the future of Need for Speed.
Fans are uncertain whether EA will revive the franchise or if it will remain inactive for the foreseeable future.

Underground still alive

While EA has paused the main NFS series, Need for Speed Underground
continues through its active community. Hotlap competitions run on NFS.onl,
and multiplayer races happen regularly.

After ScorpioNNN, Carter has also made it to the semifinals (or better: last four) with a 2-0 win over Ravage. To complete the semifinal lineup, all eyes are now on the match between Marchiii and Tapwata. The winner will face ScorpioNNN, while the loser drops into the Loser Bracket and has to face JuAnChOcNarg for the remaining spot next to Carter.
